Evaluation of our rough cut
Evaluation of the rough cut
Our rough cut took us a couple of weeks after our shootday and we have a story line that we feel makes sense to our target audience.
In my opinion the good things about our rough cut is the strong animation shots we put in to give the cut a juxtaposition to the life action we see in most pop videos. We also have some good cuts of our band which build a contrast to the story line behind the song.
However I think our group knows that, far beyond all the proud feelings that we have, the video needs the final cut with even more preciseness and perfection. When we asked memebers of our class the biggest comment was "That is so cute!" which shows again the cheesyness of the video, that we tried to make obvious, with the pink hearts on the white walls and all the love links in the kitchen which show the girlyness for our target audience. There are some scenes which we definitely have to change, like the high-angle shot which makes her look trapped and her sudden appearance. With this cheesyness the video might be limited in its reaching to a wider target audience and therefore limited in its purpose.
Though having said all these things we have effective scenes, like the oranges and the effective opening.
Over all I think our video is on a good way and now we just have to complete it with aftereffects and putting our main protagonists into a split screen when they are both singing.

Evaluation of the shoot day
Evaluation of the shoot day
Our shoot day began at 9am on a Wednesday morning and our protagonists appeared on time in the studio. We then started to paint the not finished white walls with rose hearts, while Scott and Carl set up the lights.
We shot the "heart room" with the band playing in it, using the camera, cutting from wide to mid shots and close ups.
The first couple of hours went better than expected and at 12pm we, our group, Matt and Luke and our two main protagonists, got into the bus and driving to Millie's house.
This appeared to be the harder shooting part because we had to take a camera which cuts every 10 seconds so we can later edit it to animation, so that our final video is a combination of life action and animation. This action took us ages, setting up the lights, using two different cameras and cooking three eggs till we actually got a kind-of heart-shaped egg.
In my opinion, the shoot was a success because our cast helped us out with many suggestions and patience, while we were nervous if everything worked out how it should be. We shot everything, apart from the photos, which we are going to do on Monday so that we then start the editing process. If I do it again I would change our organization, in terms of the painting of the white walls with hearts, because that could have given us more time. Other than that I am quite happy with our shoot day.
However, we made a lot of changes during the day because not everything what we imagined worked out that well how we expect it to. Scenes of Mimi singing in the bed had to be left out because of the lack of time, but still we got her singing in the heart room which gives us new room for cutting Mimi and Jack together when they're singing together.
Over all I would consider our shoot day as a good one because we followed our idea in rough shape and had new ideas during the process of shooting the music video.

Animatic Storyboard
Feedback:
We no longer have concert element, we will see the band playing in the studio. We are going to have only movement in the kitchen and when the band are playing in the studio, the rest is going to be shown through pictures. Everything is going to happen in the kitchen and towards the end up to the bedroom.

Costume ideas
This are the idea we had in mind how our cast should look like. For the girl we had a dress in mind and thought it should not be too long or short. These are some images to give a rough idea.
Our guys should match to that in an indie rock way of looking. Nothing special but simple. These are our images for that:
CD digipack idea
This is our idea for the CD digipack. We thought for the inside right of the CD we would use a picture of every member of the group and put them into the various corners.The back of the CD would be two hands who are holding a big pink paperheart in the middle of the cover and above it would be the title of the single: 'Young Love'.
The left side of the inside could be a picture of the empty stage with the microphones, drums and guitar left in the room.
The last picture of the digipack could be the band itself, the three boys standing in a kind of 'circle' and the girl would be kneeling in front of them.
