Our media product uses conventions and forms of a real media product by the different shots and angles.
To begin with the first shot in the table, the close up of the girl’s eyes, this shot represents that the girl is thinking or dreaming which shows that the thriller is a psychological thriller. It represents the expectations of the audience.
The second shot is Luke with a knife which does not give the impression of a psychological thriller to the audience because the audience knows already that he is going to be violent. The audience would probably not expect a shot like that.
The third shot is the strangling one and represents the violence directly. It gives an expectation because of the shot before which already had shown the going-to violence. The forth shot is Hermione walking with a baby in her hands which gives an impression of the caring mother which is a good contrast to the violence. The lightness gives the audience the impression of the ‘good’ side. This shot is on hand expected because of the contrast to the violence and darkness but the audience didn’t expect a mother with a child.
Shot 5 represents the bricks which are building their self around the girl which shows the psychological aspect because it is open if the girl is building the wall in her mind or in reality. This shot is expected and uses the forms of a real media product.
Shot 5 represents the bricks which are building their self around the girl which shows the psychological aspect because it is open if the girl is building the wall in her mind or in reality. This shot is expected and uses the forms of a real media product.
The 6th shot is representing the title sequence how our thriller is called. The credits are advising that the movie is a thriller or horror film. The background is dark and leads to the feeling of danger to the audience. The moving and coming in letters are giving the feeling of insecurity. The credits are similar to real media products.
Shot 7 is representing the face of the girl; she has a neutral face expression and is staring directly into the camera. This shot gives the impression of that she is thinking which shows again the psychological aspect of the thriller.
Shot eight is representing the basin where she is washing her hands and having suddenly blood on her fingers. This represents the violence and the psycho because the audience doesn’t know if she if making the blood up or if she bleeds because of her extreme washing of her hands.Blood is used in real media products and strengthens the realism of our media product.
The last shot is an over the shoulder shot and so the audience can see her point of view. The appearance of the bricks shows again the psychological part of the thriller and how she is just standing there and the bricks are building from alone. Our media product uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products by representing contrasts and giving by little details the audience questions which are leading to the assumption that the thriller is a psychological one.
